HOW TO REPLACE CEILING FAN CAPACITOR Before we begin, it's important to note that working with electricity can be dangerous, and it's always best to turn off the power to the fan at the circuit breaker before attempting any repairs. If you are not comfortable working with electricity or are unsure about the safety of the situation, it's best to call a professional electrician. Here are the steps to replace the capacitor in a ceiling fan: Materials you'll need (and available at our shop): - A replacement capacitor (make sure to get one with the same voltage rating and microfarad rating as the original) - Wire cutters/strippers - Screwdriver - Electrical tape Step 1: Turn off the power to the fan at the circuit breaker. Step 2: Locate the capacitor. It's usually a small cylinder-shaped object with two or three wires attached to it. The capacitor is typically located near the fan motor. Step 3: Use wire cutters/strippers to cut the wires connecting the capacitor to the fan motor. Make a note of which wire is connected to which terminal on the capacitor so you can reattach them correctly later. Step 4: Use a screwdriver to remove the mounting screw(s) holding the capacitor in place. Some capacitors may be held in place by a metal clip that can be removed by hand. Step 5: Take the old capacitor to a hardware store or electrical supply store to find a replacement with the same voltage and microfarad rating. Step 6: Install the new capacitor in the same location as the old one. Use the mounting screw(s) or clip to secure it in place. Step 7: Reconnect the wires to the new capacitor, making sure to attach them to the correct terminals. Use electrical tape to secure the connections and prevent any wires from touching. Step 8: Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker and test the fan to make sure it's working properly. That's it! You have successfully replaced the capacitor in your ceiling fan. !!
